I would like to make a hatband from a rattlesnake skin.How do you preserve rattlesnake skin?

Leave it on the snake. It'll frickin darn near last forever pardner.

the best way is to first make sure you have gently scraped off all tissue from he skin. then tack it to a board and salt it down to remove the moisture. after a couple of days, brush off all the salt and brush on ethelene glycol ; the primary ingredient in anti-freeze. leave this to dry for several days. repeat at least three times until the skin is tanned. this method will produce a soft pliable skin that does not loose it's color.
The very best way to preserve rattlesnake skin is to leave it on the rattler. Forget the hatband.
