I have her on wellness right now, but she is very itchy I was wondering if anyone knew of a dog food that has worked for their dog, and has stopped them from scratching. What is a good dog food for a dog with itchy skin ?
You could try adding olive oil to your dog's food. My dog used to itch a lot and I started putting a tablespoon of olive oil on his dinner. The itching went away and he got a shinier coat. Good luck =]What is a good dog food for a dog with itchy skin ?
I have an allergic dog and feed California Natural. It is formulated for allergic dogs, has human-grade ingredients, all sourced within the U.S. No allergy problems since I switched. It is made by the same company that makes Innova - Natura.
I'd say it's not the food...........
Wellness has several different formulas. If you are otherwise happy with the Wellness, you could try switching to one of their novel protein formulas (like fish and sweet potato or their duck or venison formulas). Whatever brand of food you decide to go with, you should try to find one that has significantly different ingredients (ie, if her food has chicken and turkey in it avoid any food that also has chicken or turkey in it).
Vitamin E and essential fatty acids can also help tremendously with itching and scratching.
That would have to be a food allergy, and dogs can pretty much eat anything... what being wild animals and all....
You need to look into flea and tick medicine dear...
A friend of mine whose dog had terrible allergies swears by Timberwolf. The dog's symptoms disappeared once she began feeding Timberwolf.
Check for any high quality foods that have allergy formulas. A lot of dogs have wheat allergies. We use Natural Balance (the fish flavor) and it has worked wonders for our dog that had food allergies.
Also, make sure that your dog is not suffering from fleas!

You might try switching to Evo, since it doesn't have any grains.

And, I'd add an Omega 3 supplement like Salmon Oil, which is supposed to help with skin/coat...
Both Kronch (which I get through www.sitstay.com) and Timberwolf Organics are supposed to have good Salmon Oil supplements for your dog.
Good luck.
You may want to give her something that is chicken free. Sometime chicken will do that to dogs. Also a good supplement would be good to add to her food. I use Show Stopper you can find that at http://www.an-nat.com it really helps with skin %26amp; coat. All the best;^)
don't worry about the food worry about why the dogs skin is itching
