why is it that people use outward appearance to describe the color of edible plants even when the plants themselves are not that color? For example, people describe apples as being either red, yellow, or green, when in reality all apples have a white interior and only their outer ';skins'; are red, yellow, or green. The same is true of banannas, cucumbers, squash, and a variety of other edible plants. So why don't people just describe all of these plants as being white? Why do people use skin color to describe the color of edible plants?
Because even though they are the same color on the inside, the color on the outside lets you know of the flavor. Green apples taste different than red; red taste different than yellow. They also have different textures which are used for different recipes in cooking. Its the same with yellow squash. Crook neck and banana are both yellow; white on the inside, but they have a slightly different flavor and banana squash are slightly firmer. Why do people use skin color to describe the color of edible plants?
Because when you go to buy an edible plant you look at the outside. Squash is usually orange on the inside, cucumber has a greenish hue, bananas yellowish on the inside.
Are you implying something? Because I dont think I get it.
But, here's an answer anyway.
People like variety. They don't like sameness. Life would be SO boring if that's all there was to it.
It would be pretty boring if all fruits and vegetables were known as the color ';white';, dont ya think?
